Discover the Aristokrasia version of Null + Void's 'Where I Wait' feat. Dave Gahan

Null + Void​'s debut album Cryosleep has just been released and maybe you've already discovered a well hidden special moment that up until now is only available as a bonus track for all of the formats: The 'Aristokrasia' version of 'Where I Wait' feat. Dave Gahan​ of Depeche Mode​ which has been contributed by Icelandic composer and musician Úlfur Eldjárn​, who is also a writer of brilliant film music and experimental solo projects, also a member of Iceland’s infamous synth cult Apparat Organ Quartet.

His version of ‘Where I Wait’ features a haunting string arrangement performed by an Icelandic string quartet, including member’s of Björk​’s recording ensembles on albums Homogenic​ and Vulnicura.

Úlfur has a strong fetish for mixing classical elements with electronica, which is also evident in his recently released solo album ‘The Aristókrasía Project’ - a magnificent concept album full of strings, synthesizers, other worldy percussion and vocoders singing about the joys of space travel, the history of science and how problematic love can be for artificially intelligent machines.

The mixture of Dave’s vocals set against the romantic strings, a slightly broken celesta and hallucinatory electronics, evokes an image of a time warped Viennese salon from a paralell 19th century universe, where leather clad steampunks and cyborg aristocrats gather for spiked late night tea and demented love affairs - and in one corner, a string quartet is playing, hardly discernible through the clouds of smoke and vapour.

On the track one can also hear the violin of Icelandic 19th century author and nature scientist, Benedikt Gröndal, as performed on by lead violinist Una Sveinbjarnardóttir (Björk, Bonnie Prince Billy, Penderecki). Benedikt is known for excellent writing, poetry and beautiful drawings of Icelandic birds and animals.
